Spray Foam

Spray foam insulation in San Diego.

Spray foam does two jobs at once: insulation and air-seal. Open-cell expands to fill cavities and quiets sound. Closed-cell adds structural rigidity and stops vapor cold. We spec the right one for the assembly, mask the area, and apply in even passes that meet thickness without burying the studs.

  • Coordinate with framers, electricians, and drywall on schedule

What do homeowners ask about Spray Foam?

What's the difference between open- and closed-cell foam?

Open-cell is softer, lower R per inch (about 3.7), vapor permeable, and better at sound dampening. Closed-cell is denser, higher R per inch (about 6.5), structural, and a vapor retarder. Closed-cell costs more but does more in less space, we use it on rim joists, crawlspaces, and unvented roof decks.

Is spray foam safe?

Once cured, yes. During application the chemicals off-gas and the area must be vacated and ventilated for the cure window, usually 24 hours for residential. We follow SPFA guidelines and the manufacturer's re-entry time. We don't take shortcuts on this.

Can you spray foam an existing finished wall?

Not really. Spray foam needs open framing. For finished walls we use injection foam or dense-pack cellulose drilled and filled through small holes. Ask about our wall insulation page for that approach.

Will spray foam cause my house to be too tight?

Modern code expects tight houses. The companion is mechanical ventilation, usually a bath fan or ERV running on a timer. We flag this on every spray foam quote so the HVAC contractor can size accordingly.

Real feedback

Homeowners who hired us for this

Examples of the kind of feedback we work to earn on every job. Verified reviews from real customers live on our Google Business Profile and Yelp pages.

We had R-13 batts from 1979 that had settled to nothing. Crew air-sealed top plates first, then blew cellulose to R-49. Upstairs bedrooms feel different now, the AC actually keeps up on hot afternoons.

Attic Insulation Carlsbad

Got three quotes. Thermal Pro was the only one who recommended air-sealing before insulation and pushed for the radiant barrier given the East County heat. Bill dropped 18 percent in the first August. Worth every dollar.

Attic + Radiant Barrier El Cajon

Our vaulted ceiling was the hottest room in the house. Closed-cell foam at the roof deck completely changed the room. Crew masked everything carefully, came back to check the cure, walked us through the reoccupancy timeline. Professional all the way.
